Hungry Kirkland Kids

The community made Thanksgiving possible, now the long break needs YOU.

We had a great, Kirkland outpouring of support that made real Thanksgivings possible for nearly a hundred families in our community!  The looks of awe on the faces of the parents and kids were priceless.  Now, we need your help.

This need, here, so close to so much abundance is our hometown opportunity to help our neighbors. There is nothing simpler than shopping for food that will be on the table of a needy family the night you deliver it.  If you are hungry, there are few things more important than that.

Kirkland Nourishing Network is a group of volunteers helping with food security gaps in Kirkland.  We focus on elementary school children identified by their counselors or teachers.  In a normal week, they get free or reduced meals at school.  On the weekends, there is Pantry Packs support for most of these kids.  On the four school breaks, we organize an effort to provide supplementary food to these children and their families.  Our current opportunity is the biggest challenge of the year - a lot longer than Thanksgiving and more families.  If you can’t support a box, maybe a couple of your friends would go in on a box with you.

We have spread the word each year for the past four years to meet the identified need, and we can do it again this year.  Even if you are unable to help, please pass this appeal along to your friends and neighbors, so we can help all the identified families this long, holiday season.  As usual, the counselors and teachers in our elementary schools identify the most needy, and we match your contribution up with an identified family.

This year the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland is providing support to supplement the boxes.  We sincerely thank them for that.

Our drop-off date is Wednesday, December 16th.  Again, we have sites in the north and south of Kirkland.  We, of course, need donations; but we also can use a bit of help at the drop-off/pick-up sites.  Instructions are on the web sites, just click through and sign up!

P.S.  There is limited ability for Eastside Timebankers and Kiwanis volunteers to shop for those that will be out of town.  Please send an email to daveasher@comcast.net to inquire about this.

P.P.S.  Did you remember to pass this along to others that might be able to help
