After 22 years, approximately 4000 hotdogs and veggie burgers, 10,000 water balloons, 100 gunny sack and three legged races, 150 bags of candy, 200 bags of chips, and 2000 painted faces, the HoughtDown Picnic will be taking a hiatus for 2015.
Easily, the most important number of all is the thousands of hours spent by all the HoughtDown volunteers making the picnic happen over the course of the last 22 years. The effort put into the picnic over that time span is inspiring. To all the many people who took their Labor Day weekends to put on Kirkland’s best neighborhood event, we give a big heartfelt - Thanks!
Will the HoughtDown be back from hiatus in 2016? That depends on you. The HoughtDown needs a few (around 6) families to make it happen each year. Many hands make light work and a fun time. We need new families to step up and commit to making the picnic happen next year. We have all the basics worked out and a few veteran volunteers will be there to help pass the torch. If you’re interested in helping with the picnic in 2016, please contact us at centralhoughton@gmail.com.
