Here is a message from City Councilmember Dave Asher.
Dear Kirklanders, After generous support from you for the Thanksgiving school break, Kirkland Nourishing Network is asking if you can help with our longest, and largest, drive of the school year in December. Since the size of this project is so large, would you please share this with your friends and acquaintances? It may be the most meaningful email you send all season. https://kirklandnourishingnetwork.org/ For those unfamiliar with Kirkland Nourishing Network, we try to supplement the food available to needy school children during the 4 school breaks. Normally these kids have free/reduced meals at school and most have Pantry Packs on weekends; but there is no other program providing food assistance during the breaks in the school year. We don’t try to do it all, but we do try to provide nourishment supplements to those children identified by school counselors and teachers as the most needy. There is a standard shopping list and an established drop-off date and location. This year, it is the morning of Thursday, December 20th at two locations, one in the south of Kirkland and one in the north. https://kirklandnourishingnetwork.org/ Kirkland has a long reputation of stepping up to help the less fortunate. This opportunity requires your commitment to shop for a box of food and deliver it. The impact of those simple tasks is huge compared to the effort you have to put into it. You make the network work. Please share this with your friends. https://kirklandnourishingnetwork.org/ Thank you for your consideration, - Kirkland Nourishing Network volunteers Neighbors:
Did you know that the Eastside Rail Corridor (ERC) runs more than 25 miles through King County? The former railway turned multi-purpose corridor connects the cities of Renton, Bellevue, Kirkland, Woodinville, and Redmond. To raise awareness about the corridor and celebrate its multi-purpose vision (trail, high capacity transit, and utility uses), we are beginning a naming and branding effort. Don’t worry, the Cross Kirkland Corridor and Redmond Central Connector names won’t change- we’re only considering renaming the Eastside Rail Corridor as a whole. We want to hear from you! Please take a few moments to share your insights on the ERC. Start this quick survey by clicking on this link https://www.research.net/r/ERCBranding The agenda for the November 13, 2018 CHNA meeting is available below. You can also download it using the file link. Come hear from City staff on several current items that are in process that will shape our community. These include the the Neighborhood Safety program which has help fund improved crosswalks and street lighting. Come and share your ideas for additional projects that should be considered. Staff will also go over how the City decides which Capital Improvement Projects get funded - these include transportation, water, sewer, parks, and city facilities. We are excited to have several staff members from the City of Kirkland at our meeting. City staff are also reaching out to the neighborhoods to get input on Bike Share in Kirkland and Off-leash Dog Parks (as well as enforcement of existing leash laws). Come and hear what the City Council is considering and share your ideas. We also will be discussing ideas for CHNA's application for a possible City Neighborhood Grant. The 2017/2018 Grant was used to help fund the successful Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Merger between Houghton and Kirkland. What ideas do you have for a possible grant to enhance our neighborhood? Please come and join us and share in the discussions. ![]()
