At an Open House to be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, Kirkland citizens can talk with city staff about proposed changes to the City’s Comprehensive Plan regarding land use, housing, transportation, public services, environmental protection and other essential policies. Kirkland residents recently received a special edition of City Update, the city’s newsletter that features long-range plans which will guide the future growth of Kirkland. The Kirkland 2035 initiative, launched over 18 months ago, has involved members of the Kirkland community in idea sharing for how the City can best address the anticipated growth of housing and jobs, manage traffic, preserve parks and open spaces, and provide other vital services over the next 20 years. Information will be available for public comment on the private property requests to change zoning and development regulations as well as proposed updates to several Neighborhood Plans. Citizens can speak with Parks Department staff and Park Board members about the proposed Aquatic/Recreation/Community (ARC) Center and the Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Plan. Tours of the City’s Transportation Management Center, where the City monitors traffic in real-time, will be available. The Open House will be held in the upper level of Kirkland City Hall, 123 Fifth Avenue from 5 to 7 p.m. The Park Board and Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods will be holding their meetings at 7 p.m. following the Open House.
